Biography
Hannes van Asseldonk is born in Boekel on January 10, 1992 and has four sisters. During his youth it appears that he has a penchant for wheels. Hannes bought a Puch Maxi and started making his neighborhood unsafe at the age of ten. Boekel is a real motocross village and Hannes made his debut with this moped during the annual "Cornfield motocross". The switch to a real dirt bike was quickly made and he exchanged his moped for a 85cc beautiful green Kawasaki.
His talent was soon noticed by the local experts. In October 2006 Hannes was invited by Michel Vacirca to test a kart in Eindhoven.
This meeting was the beginning of his membership in Michel Vacirca’s team, CRG. Hannes competed, at the age of 15, in the Dutch Rotax Max Junior Championship in 2007. While the most contestants were driving for several years, Hannes did not have any experience in driving a kart. Although he didn’t won any prizes, he did learn a lot and he wanted more.
2008
In 2008 Hannes decided to remain a member of CRG and competed in the Rotax Max Senior. It didn’t took long before Hannes started winning several prizes and he became a successful contestant.
Eager for more success, Hannes started competing in several international championships. After his first pole position at Spa, he won in Genk, and in Berghem he won the weekend by beating the world champion of 2007 in 2 direct fights.
Due to his good performance in 2008 - first in the Benelux Championship and second in the Dutch Championship - Hannes qualified himself for a ticket to the World Championships in La Conca in southern Italy. In this event Hannes showed he is among the best karters in the world. In his second year of karting, out of 250 participants from 80 different countries Hannes ends in fourth place in the final.
2009
Through his achievements in 2008 he is asked by Anton van Grunsven to switch to AVG Racing, to drive KZ2. A class with many experienced drivers, Hannes participates in the Dutch, German, Italian, FIA European and World Championships. He gained much experience and showed he was ready to compete with the best.
Unfortunately, 2009 also turned out to be a very sad year for Hannes. Besides breaking his collarbone during the FIA World Cup in Sarno, he saw his teammate and friend Thomas Knopper crashing during the race for the German Championship. His friend didn’t survive the accident. Thomas learned Hannes the fine skills of driving in this fierce class. Although a year has passed, he still misses his friend and feels the pain of his lost.
2010
In 2010 Hannes orients himself about the next step in his career, he participates in the Formula BMW License Course at the Valencia circuit. Through his performance he gets invited to the BMW Scholarship Course, where the best drivers gets awarded with a "scholarship" for participation in the European Formula BMW Championship. Unfortunately his broken collarbone prevents Hannes from succeeding in winning the award. However, Hannes acquires the taste of driving Formula cars.
After that he tests with four different FBMW teams from England, Italy and Germany. He receives an offer from all the teams. Ultimately, he opts for the German team Josef Kaufmann Racing, where he and Robin Frijns (Rookie 2009) and Petri Suvanto (BMW Scholarship winner Course) competed in Formula BMW. The races take place in the European Formula 1 weekends, so the dream and ambition of Hannes are coming closer.

Hannes van Asseldonk wordt geboren in Boekel op 10 januari 1992 en heeft 4 zussen. Al tijdens zijn jeugd blijkt dat hij een voorliefde voor wielen heeft; Als Hannes tien jaar is, koopt hij een Puch Maxi, waarmee hij de buurt onveilig maakt. Aangezien Boekel een écht motorcrossdorp is, maakt hij met deze brommer zijn debuut tijdens de jaarlijkse “Maisplak Cross”. De overstap naar een echte crossmotor was dan ook snel gemaakt en de Puch Maxi werd ingeruild voor een prachtig groene 85cc Kawasaki.
Zijn talent werd snel opgemerkt en in oktober 2006 wordt Hannes uitgenodigd om in Eindhoven bij Michel Vacirca een kart te testen. Deze test heeft uiteindelijk geresulteerd in deelname aan het Nederlands Kampioenschap Rotax Max Junior, waaraan Hannes met het CRG Team van Michel Vacirca en Dennis de Bruin deelneemt.
2008
Hannes besluit bij het CRG te blijven en komt dit jaar uit in de Rotax Max Senior. Al snel is hij succesvol en neemt hij de eerste bekers mee naar Boekel. Zijn carrière komt in een stroomversnelling omdat hij naast het Nederlands Kampioenschap ook in de Benelux-, Europese- en wereldkampioenschappen uitkomt. Na zijn eerste pole position in Spa wint hij in Genk, tijdens de BNL series, zijn allereerste wedstrijd. In de daaropvolgende race wint Hannes weer en verslaat in een direct gevecht wereldkampioen Ricardo Romkema.
Door zijn goede prestaties in 2008 – eerste in het Benelux Kampioenschap en tweede in het Nederlands Kampioenschap – verdient Hannes een ticket voor de wereldkampioenschappen in La Conca in Zuid-Italië. Tijdens dit evenement laat Hannes zien bij de besten te horen; Van de 250 deelnemers uit 80 verschillende landen eindigt Hannes op een vierde plaats in zijn tweede jaar.
2009
Door zijn prestaties in 2008 wordt Hannes door Anton van Grunsven gevraagd om voor AVG Racing schakelkarts te rijden. Een klasse met veel ervaren rijders, waarin Hannes – met deelname aan het Nederlandse-, Duitse-, Italiaanse, de FIA Europese- en wereldkampioenschappen – veel ervaring opdoet en ook hier laat zien met allersnelsten mee te kunnen.
Helaas wordt 2009 ook een bijzonder triest jaar; Naast een sleutelbeenbreuk voor Hannes tijdens het FIA WK in Sarno verongelukt voor de ogen van Hannes teamgenoot en vriend Thomas Knopper in een race om het Duitse Kampioenschap. Thomas leerde Hannes de fijne kneepjes van het rijden in deze heftige klasse en trokken samen ook veel op met elkaar naast het karten. Tot op de dag van vandaag heeft Hannes nog veel verdriet van dit ongeluk.
2010
In 2010 oriënteert Hannes zich op de volgende stap in zijn carrière; Hij rijdt de License Course van Formula BMW op het circuit van Valencia. Door zijn goede prestaties wordt hij door BMW uitgenodigd voor de Scholarship Course, waarbij aan de beste coureurs een “studiebeurs” wordt uitgereikt voor deelname aan het Europese Kampioenschap. Door zijn sleutelbeenbreuk slaagt Hannes er niet in om deze beurs te bemachtigen, maar krijgt hierdoor wel de smaak voor de raceklasse te pakken.
Na testseries bij vier verschillende teams uit Engeland, Italië en Duitsland krijgt Hannes door alle teams een stoeltje aangeboden. Uiteindelijk kiest hij voor het Duitse team van Josef Kaufmann Racing, waarin hij samen met Robin Frijns (Rookie 2009) en Petri Suvanto (winnaar BMW Scholarship Course) in een Formula BMW uitkomt. De races van deze klasse vinden plaats in het voorprogramma van de Europese Formule 1 wedstrijden, zodat de droom en ambitie van Hannes steeds dichterbij komt.
